Xia Long Hydropower Station is 1,684 kilometers away from the birthplace of the Yellow River and 3,376 kilometers away from the estuary of the Yellow River. It is the first large-scale cascade hydropower station in the upper reaches of the Yellow River, and is known as the leading Yellow River hydropower station. Xia Long is located on the main stream of the Yellow River between Gonghe County and Guide County in Qinghai Province. It is about 37 kilometers long and less than 100 meters wide. The Yellow River runs through the canyon from west to east, with steep cliffs on both sides, overlapping mountains, narrow rivers and fast-flowing water. The narrowest part is only about 30 meters, and the relative height of both sides is about 200-300 meters, and the highest is 800 meters.

There is a Dongshan Mountain near Longyangxia. The scenic spot is located above the Yellow River Grand Canyon, with a drop of 300-400 meters from the canyon pier. 4. Longyangxia Tourism

Since 1956, the state has begun to plan, survey and design the development of hydropower resources in Longyangxia. On January 28, 1976, the state approved the construction of Longyangxia Hydropower Station, and the survey and design work was undertaken by the Northwest Survey and Design Institute of the Ministry of Water and Electricity. In February, 1976, the geological prospecting team entered Longyangxia, and the construction team of the Fourth Hydropower Bureau entered the construction site, and started the construction preparations, thus forming the project of survey, design and construction. For 30 years, surveyors and designers have been fighting against sandstorms between the cliffs of desolate plateau canyons. The geological structure line in the survey area is about 4,000 kilometers, and 187 coring holes have been drilled.

In January 1980, the dam foundation of Longyangxia Hydropower Station was formally excavated. Because there are 10 large faults in the dam site, a large-scale dam foundation treatment work has been carried out, including adjusting the shape of the arch dam, making the abutment properly embedded in both banks, and avoiding the adverse effects caused by the cutting of the abutment by faults.

With the completion of the 15-meter and 18-meter diversion tunnel on December 27th, 1979, two days later, on the afternoon of 29th, the Yellow River was officially cut off, and a large number of blocks were simultaneously pushed into Longkou by bulldozers from both sides. At 10: 45 that night, the cofferdam was closed. In just 4 hours and 45 minutes, the Yellow River channel with a width of 53 meters and a depth of 14 meters was completely blocked, and the Yellow River flow was discharged through the diversion tunnel instead.

The Xia Long Water Control Project includes the main body, the spillway structure and the powerhouse behind the dam. A total of 3.46 million cubic meters of stonework was excavated, 3.16 million cubic meters of concrete was poured, and about 16,200 tons of steel bars, steel structures and metal structures were used.

5. Longyangxia Ecological Scenic Spot Tourism Guide Map

Longyangxia is 40 kilometers long, with an area of 380 square kilometers and a valley width of 9 kilometers. It is the first canyon in the upper reaches of the Yellow River. The narrowest part of the canyon is only 30 meters, with granite cliffs on both sides, the highest point is nearly 200 meters, and the average elevation is 2700 meters.

After the completion of the power station, the total storage capacity is 24.7 billion cubic meters, second only to the Three Gorges and Longtan, ranking third in China and the highest artificial lake in China at present.
