Hengchun ancient settlement
As early as the Qing Dynasty, due to the development of agriculture and fisheries, bandao produced many settlements in today's Hengchun, Checheng coastal areas and Manzhou. The inconvenient transportation and its special geographical and climatic factors made the style of the cottages on the peninsula very different from the common Fujian-style buildings in Taiwan Province. Instead, they were close to the traditional buildings in Penghu due to the exchanges in fishing. Coupled with the special living habits of local residents, they were sometimes influenced by the European-like style during the Japanese occupation period, and became self-contained in Taiwan Province. The buildings on the peninsula are deeply influenced by the function of life, and the basic form is centered on the gods dedicated to ancestral tablets, extending to the left and right to form a so-called "one-stop". One-stop houses are arranged adjacent to the main street and develop in a strip shape, which is a common landscape in coastal settlements of Hengchun and Checheng.
