Green tourism pursues the road of sustainable development. With the development of tourism, the infrastructure construction of tourist destinations has been strengthened. When people's income increases, natural and cultural heritage is effectively protected, communication between tourists and people in tourist destinations can be realized, and tourism also needs to implement stricter environmental management standards. At the same time, with the improvement of people's awareness of environmental protection, tourists will also consciously seek "green vacation" and environmentally friendly tourism services. Based on this demand, the World Travel and Tourism Council, the world's largest travel and tourism industry summit organization, began to advocate the implementation of "ISO14000" series standards and "Green Globe 21" certification in the tourism industry in the early 1990s. By the beginning of the 21st century, "ISO14000" and "Green Globe 21" have become internationally recognized certification signs for the sustainable management of environmental quality in the travel and tourism industry, which are the magic weapon for the sustainable development of tourism and a stepping stone for the tourism industry to enhance its competitiveness and enter the international market.

Green globe 21

Green Globe 21 is a global reference, certification and improvement system for sustainable tourism. Guided by Agenda 21 and the principle of sustainable development of Rio Earth Summit Forum, it provides sustainable tourism paths for companies, communities and consumers. It was founded by the World Tourism Council (WTTC) in 1993. By 2008, its member countries had reached more than 50. In 1999, the green global 21st century standard was introduced, and independent audit was started. In 2001, it was further upgraded and an annual reference system for actual environmental improvement was implemented. It promotes four standards: the standard of Green Global 21 Company; Green Global 21 community standard; Green Globe 21 International Eco-tourism Standard and Green Globe 21 Design and Construction Standard. All levels of Green Globe 21 participants should implement annual updates. Participants are divided into three categories: A= Affiliate/Awareness, B= Benchmarking and C= certification. For Class B and Class C, reference and certification should be carried out every year, which means that it is necessary to test its realization of the set goals and promise to make continuous improvement. This strengthens the credibility of the Green Globe 21 brand and prevents the brand of Green Globe 21 from being abused.

This standard has been popularized in many countries. The Tourism Development Law of the government of Barbados, a Caribbean island country, stipulates that all enterprises that have passed the Green Globe 21 certification can enjoy 150% tax reduction and exemption. This has stimulated self-discipline of enterprises, and the government has also reduced a lot of investment in environmental protection governance every year. The main task of Green Globe 21 China Representative Office is to establish cooperative relations with relevant state administrative departments, be responsible for organizing, implementing and coordinating the certification services provided in China, and provide various auxiliary services needed in the implementation process. Jiuzhaigou, Huanglong, Sanxingdui Museum, Shunan Bamboo Sea Scenic Area, Zhejiang World Trade Hotel, etc. have been certified by this standard.
